Head Coach LeShawn Hammett to be Honored at National Awards Show

Penn State Wilkes Barre Men's Basketball Head Coach, LeShawn Hammett is going to be honored for winning the 2019 USCAA Division II National Championship. Hammett will attend the event in which various National Champion Head Coaches will be honored by the Small College Basketball Association. The award show will be on May 11, at the Crowne Plaza in downtown Kansas City, MO. At the awards show there will be numerous awards that will be given out to the coaches in attendance such as the Bevo Francis Award, Harry Statham Coach of Impact Award and Lifetime Achievement Award. 

Coach Hammett had an amazing year as the Men's Basketball Head Coach as he led his team to the National Championship. Wilkes Barre 25-5 this season with a 12-0 home record and was ranked #3 in the nation according to the USCAA prior to the National Tournament. Hammett also coached senior Jordan Williams to be the USCAA National Championship Tournament MVP, sophomore Levan Soules to USCAA DII Slam Dunk Champion, PSUAC East Defensive Player of the Year and East 1st Team All-Conference player Ameer Biddle, 1st Team All-Conference player Khalil White, as well as Kevin Silverberg who received Honorable Mention. The previous season the Hammett coached Wilkes Barre Basketball team went 18-11 overall and 12-4 in conference before losing to Penn State Brandywine in the conference finals and losing in the first round of the USCAA Tournament. Hammett and his team bounced back this year and went all the way to the National Championship and brought it home to Wilkes Barre.
