Men's Basketball Faces Vermont Tech in USCAA National Tournament

On Wednesday, February 28th, Penn State Wilkes Barre's Men's Basketball team faces Vermont Tech in the opening round of the USCAA National Championship Tournament. The game will be played at Penn State Fayette at 8:00pm. PSU Wilkes-Barre is the #8 seed, and Vermont Tech is the #9 seed. The winner of this game will go on to face Berkeley College, who is the #1 seed in the tournament.

PSU Wilkes-Barre heads into the tournament with an 18-9 record. They lost the PSUAC Conference Championship to Penn State Brandywine, the #4 seed in the USCAA National Championship Tournament. The offense is very well balanced, with 5 players averaging double digit points. They are led by Levaugn Soules, who is averaging 11.4 PPG, 7.8 RPG, 1.6 BPG and 1.2 SPG on the season. He also shoots an efficient 57.9% from the field. His play on both ends of the court will be a huge factor for the Mountain Lions. Tomir Gibbs will also need to play like he is capable of. He averages 11.1 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 2.3 APG and 2.3 SPG. He plays extremely tough defensively, so the team will be looking to build off of his energy. Kevin Silverberg is the sharp shooter on the team. He scores 10.2 PPG, shooting 40% from behind the arc. He also leads the team in minutes per game. The other two double digit scorers are Jordan Williams (10.2 PPG and 5.5 RPG) and Davaughn Roberts (10.1 PPG and 6.0 RPG).

For Vermont Tech, they come into the game with a 19-11 record, losing in the YSCC Elite 8 Tournament Championship to NHTI. They also have 5 players who average double digit points. Cameron Carter leads the team with 16.6 PPG and 5.9 RPG. He shoots 46% from the field, so his efficiency will be huge for the Knights. The next leading scorer is Titus Smith. He averages 14.6 PPG, 5.3 APG and 5.1 RPG. He also leads the team with 30.8 minutes per game. Daniel Gill averages 13.2 PPG, Taiga Cantor averages 10.7 PPG, and 10.6 PPG from Tyrone Hilson.
