Over the weekend, the Penn State Wilkes-Barre's Men's Basketball went 1-1 in their final two regular season games of the season. In doing so, they clinched a spot in the PSUAC playoffs.
In their first game of the weekend, the Mountain Lions fell to Penn State Greater Allegheny 45-44. Kevin Silverberg hit a three-pointer with 15 seconds left to give the men a one point lead late in the game. However, George Prota of Greater Allegheny made two free throws with 2 seconds remaining to give them the victory. It was a defensive minded game throughout, with neither team shooting above 30% from the field.
PSU Wilkes-Barre's leading scorer was Jordan Williams with a game high 15 points and 3 rebounds. He was the only Mountain Lion to score in double figures. Davaughn Roberts also contributed 8 points and 5 steals.
In the second game of the weekend, Wilkes-Barre came away with the win against Penn State Beaver, 77-60. The Mountain Lions had a big second half to secure the victory, outscoring Beaver by 20 points. The team shot 48.5% from the field, and the made 6-7 free throws in the game. The defense was key throughout the game, as they did not allow any bench player to score during the entire game.
Davaughn Roberts led the team on offense with 20 points and 4 rebounds. Tomir Gibbs added 18 points, 4 steals and 3 rebounds, and Ameer Biddle had 9 points and 3 rebounds.
The Mountain Lions will be the 4 seed in the PSUAC playoffs, and they will play a home game on Wednesday February 14 against Penn State Lehigh Valley. Keep up the good work!
